ONI Geyser Calculator
Last edited by Beowulf ; 10 Sep, pm. Showing 1 - 9 of 9 comments. Best I have seen so far is Imo it has the potential to take you well past cycles. Downside is really only no cold co2 or chlorine geyser. I'm on cycle withit has a bit of everything but all pretty far away from starting biome so it isn't too great for newbies. Note that this guide is based on the original Release version of ONI and is a continuation of my early-game and mid-game guides. Stress How to Handle It. Ultimate Gas Weight Guide. Useful Construction Patterns. Advanced Pipe Mechanics. Asteroid Spawn Seeds. Late-Game's Start Let's start off by examining the state of a base that's just leaving the mid-game. For those who have been following my other guides, this will be following the same playthrough as before.
Note that the playthrough is meant to serve as an example; you should be fine as long as your colony has similar areas to these. Geysers Of course, when a colony has been running for cycles, there's a lot to cover. First, let's focus on tamed geysers: The three blue circles indicate the presence of Cool Steam Vents, while the orange circle marks the site of a Natural Gas Geyser and the light purple marks a Salt Water Geyser.
All of them have been properly enclosed in a manner that will allow the colony to continuously utilize their resources.Oxygen Not Included. SELF COOLING STEAM GEYSER! This is THE BEST Map Seed Ever!!!
Industry The colony also has a significant amount of industry up and running. The yellow ovals mark the locations of existing Power generation areas - Coal, Natural Gas, and Manual Generator sites. While these areas aren't yet being directly cooled by Steam Turbine, there's a little time before a Turbine is strongly needed here.
Meanwhile, the blue circle marks the site of the colony's Oxygen generation plant. At present, the black circle's site is small, but there's a lot of empty room nearby - this is quite intentional. I'll be referring to this as the "industrial zone. That said, there's plenty of room to add new industry to the same cooling loop as the Refinery. A lot of the new designs we'll be building can generate a lot of heat, so it's a very good idea to have an area like this base in your colony before proceeding far.
Cooling Finally, let's examine the temperature overlay: As might be expected, the sites of all the geysers are running pretty hot. That said, you'll note that the sites closer to the base aren't "bleeding" much heat outside of their enclosures; that's due to the "taming" process done in the mid-game.
The current worst offender in terms of heat is the power zone, which is to be expected if there's no cooling on-site yet. It doesn't help that the old Metal Refinery setup was in the same area. Note the temperature at the industrial zone's site - it's actually gotten pretty cold there! Steam Turbine cooling is quite powerful and has started reversing a lot of the heat that the nearby Cool Water Vent bled into the environment during earlier stages of the game.
The strongest spots of blue in that area mark the sites of exposed Radiant Pipe that are being actively maintained by the coolant tank beneath the Refinery and by the Steam Turbine setup to its right. At the top of the view, there's another Steam Turbine setup to the left of the paired Cool Steam Vents.Home Discussions Workshop Market Broadcasts.

I believe its been changed to force you to use other method to produce electricity, steam power generator, coal, hydrogen etc.

In the update post they say there are more geysers spawned at world generation, so it's not surprising that they produce less for balance's sake. It's just annoying that it affects pre-update games.
They say that but I've been playing it since the beta and have never seen 2 natural gas geysers on a map. Originally posted by DietDrPibb :. Originally posted by king strange james :. I stumbled upon this design while browsing the Klei forums. Take a look. Showing 1 - 13 of 13 comments. Rattja View Profile View Posts. Very clever! It is a nice and low tech way to do it I guess.
Tested it out just now in debug mode and it seems to take a very long time to reach the lower temperatueres, but it gets down there eventually. Personally I like to have more control, and I am on day 3 of testing with gaysirs and water. How it works: The geysir locks itself in with waterlocks at the top which are only 34g of water. Running cold pipes behind these cools the entire pool in about a cycle, regardless how deep it is. This does of course depend on the pipe material and whatever you pump through it.
You can use cold water or cold gass, depending on what you have and how fast you want to cool it. With only 2 temp switches you can control exactly the temperature you want the water to have. If you want more water out of it, just extend the pool down and add more pumps. At about 3 or 4 pumps you max out the potential of the geysir however. Have not built one in a normal game yet, but should be doable. Slight update.
Had not considered the idea of using wheezewort as I didn't think they were powerfull enough.Forgot your password?

I have gotten somewhat tired of going cycles in and wishing I had very different Geysers. I was wondering if anyone knew a seed that has what I want, or a method to evaluating them quickly without using debug mode. Maybe the algorithm to geysers by seed itself? If you load a save it'll tell you all the geysers on the map, and then you can edit their type and rates if you want, and re-save it.
Worked well for me, just modded my seed to add in a little more geyser variety. But on another note, I do hope they'll add an advanced world generation system, where we can just pick the geysers or debris we want and it'll spit one out. The randomness is enjoyable, but my last map had 4 chlorine geysers. It literally takes away from all the cool things you can build and do when you never get a slush geyser or hydrogen geyser or anything interesting. Couldn't even experiment with the volcanoes.
I do hope to see more variety of geysers too. Like having cool water geysers that output water just above freezing. But yeah thanks for the link Ima make a cool save now. If you are not bothered about changing the world generation you can also force more geysers into the game. I did but I also increased the map size.
If here is the place to find the seed of my dream to start into ranching mk2 tomorrow. I would like to try it too:. Seed: This is the one I use atm for mk1, hoping it will still be relatively the same in mk2, it has 2 steams and a pol water geyser left of the base, and below it an NG one, right of the base there's a chlorine geyser, and further on a pol water one, downwards from there a slush, upwards from there a pO2.
Bottom right there's an oil well next to an iron volcano. There's also 2 minor volcanos, one in the cold biome above the base, and one in the cold biome left of the steam geysers and upwards. There's also plenty of wheezeworts, an AETN under the left volcano, another one top right of the map and a third somewhere left of the top minor volcano.
So yeah, it's got everything you'd want aside from maybe infinite gold.Forgot your password? Or sign in with one of these services.

I used to like map seeds where the geysers were way far away and hard to find Hopped on today post rancher upgrade and discovered all of these were still in place; the steam is now cool steam, and the map now also includes a copper vent, another natural gas vent, a couple chlorine geysers, a CO2 vent and a couple polluted O2 geysers.
Oh well. Be warned, is a bit short on seeds to kick you off. Like seriously short compared to most worlds. I think in the neighborhood of 3 mealwood. Two cool steam geysers and a natural gas within blocks from the starting location. Cold Biomes aren't that far away and there's tons of algae. Existing user? Sign in anonymously.
